Now I lay me down to sleep,
I close my eyes and slip down deep,
Into a dream I can’t deny,
Although, while wakened I do try.
My vision’s black and full of fear,
And no matter what, I can’t leave here,
This horrible past has gripped my mind,
To consume my body for all time.
The whimpers echo in my head,
My heart is bogged down by dread.
The scarlet pain will lance my side,
Ignoring those pained tears I cried.
I wonder why this had to be,
I wonder why it happened to me,
But one day I hope that the past,
Will leave me, and I can sleep at last.
