        This special 8-panel strip is brought to you by my unwllingness to force the opening scene to comply with the artificial 4-panel structure of most of the story.

        Superman was created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938).

        Batman was created by Bob Kane & Bill Finger and first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (March 1939).

        Flash (III; Wally West) was created by John Broome & Carmine Infantino and first appeared (as Kid Flash) in The Flash #110 (Dec. 1959).

        Max Mercury was created by Jack Cole & Chuck Mazoujian and first appeared as Quicksilver in National Comics #5 (Nov. 1940). He was revamped by Mark Waid and first appeared as Max Mercury in Flash v.2 #76 (May 1993).
